Simple Tricks to Clean Your Stove Top, Even Stubborn Grease and Stains!

Easy Steps to Clean Your Stove Top — Even Tough Grease and Stains!

Cleaning a grimy stove doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Today, I tackled my messy gas stove top and discovered a simple routine that makes it shine. If your stove looks like mine did — covered in grease, spills, and burnt-on food — follow these steps to restore it to its former glory.

Gather Your Supplies

Before you start, make sure you have everything ready:

  • Hot, Soapy Water: Fill a sink or basin with hot water and dish soap.

  • Baking Soda: A natural abrasive and odor absorber.

  • White Vinegar: Cuts through grease and grime effortlessly.

  • Scrubbing Pads or Brushes: Essential for tough stains.

  • Microfiber Cloths or Paper Towels: For drying and polishing.

  • Rubber Gloves: Protect your hands from dirt and cleaning solutions.

Prep the Stove

First, clear the area. Remove utensils, spice jars, or any loose items from the stovetop. Then, take off the grates and burner caps — usually the dirtiest parts — and let them soak in hot, soapy water for 15–20 minutes. This softens grime, making it easier to clean later.

Tackle the Stove Top

Sprinkle a generous layer of baking soda over the stove surface. It breaks down stubborn stains safely and naturally. Then, using a scrubbing pad or brush, scrub in circular motions. Apply a bit of pressure on tougher spots.

Next, spray white vinegar over the baking soda. It will foam and bubble, helping lift grease and grime even more. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes while you take a short break or move on to other areas.

Afterward, scrub the stovetop again. You’ll notice the stains come off much more easily. For stubborn spots, add more baking soda and vinegar as needed.

Rinse and Polish

Dampen a microfiber cloth or paper towel with clean water and wipe away all residue. Make sure to remove every trace of baking soda and vinegar. Then, dry and polish the surface with a dry cloth.

Clean the Grates and Burner Caps

After soaking, scrub the grates and burner caps with a brush or scrubbing pad. Rinse them thoroughly and dry before returning them to the stove.

Admire Your Work

Step back and enjoy the sparkling results. Your stove looks spotless, and the kitchen feels refreshed.

Keep It Clean

To maintain your stove’s shine, wipe spills as they happen. Regular upkeep prevents a major cleaning session later. With the right supplies and a little elbow grease, even the messiest stove becomes manageable.

Your gas stove can go from grimy to gleaming with these simple steps. Roll up your sleeves, follow this method, and enjoy a clean, happy kitchen!
