This morning, fans of the “Today” Show were in for a surprise when co-host Savannah Guthrie was noticeably absent. While her absence was briefly explained by co-host Hoda Kotb, it was Craig Melvin who filled in for Guthrie on the show. So where was Guthrie?

As it turns out, Guthrie was on a book tour for her latest work titled “Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere.” Just the day before, she had a stop in Texas where former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush showed up to support her. Quite the start to a book tour, right?

However, fans of the “Today” Show were not thrilled about Guthrie’s book tour. Their dissatisfaction stemmed from an interview that aired on Thursday, right before she embarked on her tour. Guthrie interviewed singer and actress Kelly Rowland about her upcoming Netflix film called “Mea Cupla.” But it wasn’t just about the movie.

During the interview, Guthrie brought up another celebrity, Beyoncé, who is a close friend of Rowland’s and a former member of the girl group Destiny’s Child alongside Rowland. Fans felt that it was disrespectful to ask Rowland about her friend during an interview about her own work. One fan took to social media, stating, “Very disrespectful to ask… [Rowland] about Beyoncé every freaking time she comes on your show.”

Fans were further frustrated by Guthrie’s insistence on getting more information about Beyoncé. The interview left many feeling like Guthrie was prying into Rowland’s personal life instead of focusing on her career and the film she was promoting.

Whether or not Guthrie’s questions were disrespectful is still up for debate. However, it’s clear that many fans of the “Today” Show were not happy with the way the interview was conducted. The incident has sparked conversations about interview etiquette and the importance of respecting the interviewee’s boundaries.

While Guthrie’s absence from the show may have been unrelated to the interview backlash, it’s clear that her actions have had an impact on the show’s dedicated viewers. As fans eagerly await her return, it remains to be seen how the “Today” Show will address the controversy and move forward.

In the meantime, watch the video below to see the full interview for yourself and decide whether or not Guthrie’s questions were disrespectful.
