Man builds new home for homeless woman forced to sleep in dirt for a decade – thanks for your kindness

Not many people take the time to understand a homeless person and learn about their journey that led them to live alone on the streets.

Yet, a hero in Los Angeles got to know the homeless woman staying outside his house and took incredible steps to help her.

Irene “Smokie” McGee has been living on the streets of south Los Angeles for the past ten years after her husband died and she lost her home.

The 60-year-old woman slept on the ground at night and collected recycling during the day to sell for food.

She spent the majority of her nights camping outside an apartment complex, where a resident became acquainted with her and discovered her story.

Resident Elvis Summers expressed his concern, stating that it is simply unfair to see a 60-year-old mother and grandmother, who is a human being, sleeping in the dirt.

Elvis and Irene became friends, and the young man made a decision to construct a house for Irene because he couldn’t bear to see her sleeping on the streets every night.

The kind neighbor built her a house with $500 worth of wood he bought, siding and roofing given by a local business, and his own building abilities.

My goal was simply to construct a safe and secure environment where she could feel warm and comfortable.

Irene got a roof over her head after only five days.

Irene described her first night in her new 3.5 ft by 8 ft home as very relaxing. She felt so good that she thinks she slept half the day.

Elvis is truly a hero! Let’s inspire others to help those who are less fortunate than us by spreading the word.
