” Living Tiny”: Family of Six Thriving in a Revamped Vintage Airstream

Meet the Longneckers, a family of six who have been living in an RV for the past five years! They started with a big fifth wheel trailer but found it too difficult to park and explore off-the-beaten-track areas. So, they downsized to a renovated vintage airstream.

They bought the airstream for $13,000 and spent about $35,000 renovating it, bringing the total cost to around $48,000. Despite its small size of only 220 square feet, their airstream has a large kitchen, solar power with 400 amp hour batteries, a bathroom with a shower and nature’s head compost toilet, and a desk/office area for Jonathan to work on the road.

As for sleeping arrangements, the four children share two bunk beds in the middle of the trailer, while the parents sleep at the end. Every night, they convert the dining table into a bed, rearranging the couch cushions for added comfort.

Living in an airstream has allowed the Longneckers to have incredible experiences, hiking and camping in beautiful locations across the United States while homeschooling their kids. They’ve grown closer as a family, forming strong bonds with each other.

Would you consider living in a tiny house or airstream with your kids?
