In the 2024 presidential race, former President Donald Trump received a boost in the swing state of Pennsylvania as Luzerne County, a longtime Democratic stronghold, flipped to Republican. According to the Pennsylvania Department of State, Republicans now hold a slim lead of just 83 registered voters in the county, with 87,415 Republicans and 87,332 Democrats. GOP activist Scott Presler celebrated the news, encouraging local Republicans to volunteer. Meanwhile, Luzerne County Democratic Chairman Thomas Shubilla acknowledged the shift but emphasized that voter registration numbers could fluctuate before the election.
