Teen Karmelo Anthony Released Under Strict Conditions After Fatal Stabbing Case

Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old accused of fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf during a school track meet in Frisco, Texas, was released on bond under strict conditions. He must remain under house arrest, wear an ankle monitor, and avoid any contact with the victim’s family. He can only leave home for approved legal appointments and must check in weekly with the court.

The case stems from an April 2 altercation where Karmelo allegedly stabbed Austin after a verbal dispute turned physical. Karmelo claims he acted in self-defense. A grand jury will now decide whether to indict him. If indicted, the case will move to trial.

Prosecutors confirmed that due to his age, Karmelo cannot face the death penalty or life without parole. Meanwhile, his family has raised over $400,000 for his legal defense. Austin’s twin brother, who witnessed the stabbing, attempted to save him, but Austin died at the scene. The incident has deeply impacted the community, with many mourning the loss of the well-loved student-athlete.
