Austrian scientists have developed InnoMake, a $3,000 shoe designed

to help blind individuals avoid obstacles. Created by Tec-Innovation

and Graz University of Technology, the shoe uses waterproof ultrasonic

sensors on each toe to detect objects up to 13 feet away, alerting the

wearer with vibrations and sounds. The sensors can differentiate between

obstacles like walls, cars, or stairs. Future versions may include

camera-based recognition and machine learning for improved navigation.

InnoMake aims to enhance the independence and safety of visually impaired individuals
