Should You Rinse Mince Meat or Not, Experts Reveal The Truth

 

Some people believe that rinsing minced meat before cooking

is a healthier option, claiming it reduces the fat content,

which can be appealing for those looking to lose weight.

However, others argue that washing minced meat can diminish its flavor.

While it does remove some fat, it also affects the taste and

moisture of the meat, potentially leading to a drier and bland dish.

 

Washing ground beef before cooking it is not worth doing. Today,

ground beef and poultry are cleaned during processing, so any further washing is unnecessary.

USDA experts stated that washing the meat is not necessary, since

the heat it is facing will kill any bacteria the minced meat has on it.

 

They also point out that washing meat can actually increase the risk of bacteria and germs. Water can splash, spreading these contaminants onto kitchen surfaces and increasing the chance of cross-contamination.
