Grandson Quits Job to Become Full-Time Caregiver for 96-Year-Old Grandma

Most of us like to believe we’d do anything to support the happiness and well-being of our loved ones. However, when life demands sacrifices that require us to uproot everything, it’s not always an easy choice. For Chris Punsalan, a musician and content creator from the Philippines, the decision to leave his life behind to care for his grandmother was immediate and unwavering.

Chris’s family lives in Nevada, while his 96-year-old grandmother resides in the Philippines. When she ran out of caregivers, the family considered placing her in a care home. But for Chris, this wasn’t an option. Driven by love and gratitude, he made the extraordinary choice to quit his job, leave his life in the U.S., and move halfway across the world to care for his grandmother full-time.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Chris explained his motivation:
“She took care of me, and I would hate to see her go to home care, which is where most grandparents go in America. They go to home care because nobody is able to take care of them.”

Chris’s words reflect a deep appreciation for his grandmother’s role in his life. For him, this wasn’t merely a duty—it was an act of love and respect for the woman who once cared for him.

Sharing His Journey With the World
While Chris was already well-known as a content creator, he never expected his decision to go viral. Once settled into his new life as a caregiver, he began sharing videos documenting his day-to-day experiences caring for his grandmother.

Through these heartfelt clips, Chris gives viewers an intimate look into both the challenges and joys of caregiving. From tender moments of connection to the bittersweet reality of his grandmother sometimes forgetting who he is, Chris’s journey serves as a touching reminder of life’s fragility.

“To see her forget who I am sometimes and for me to have to remind her… It’s a constant reminder that life is very fragile and short,” Chris shared.

Despite the physical distance from the rest of his family and the sacrifices he’s made, Chris feels lucky to have this precious time with his grandmother in her golden years. His story is a powerful testament to unconditional love, selflessness, and the importance of family.

Chris Punsalan’s decision reminds us that true sacrifice often comes from a place of deep love and gratitude. It challenges us to reflect on our own priorities and the lengths we’re willing to go to care for those who once cared for us.

If you found Chris’s story as inspiring as we did, please share this article on Facebook to remind others of the power of family, sacrifice, and love. Let’s celebrate these acts of kindness and encourage others to cherish every moment with their loved ones.

I’m 52, and I’ve poured my whole life into my family. Not just love — I mean everything. I worked three jobs to support my husband, my adult daughter, and her baby. I loved them so deeply, I never questioned why my husband had been jobless for 20 years, lounging around, or why my daughter — well into her 30s — was still living off my paychecks. I completely lost myself in the process, but worse? My family only saw me as their personal ATM. They didn’t notice I’d become a shell of myself. Then, one day, I treated myself to a café visit, only to have some teenagers mock me as an “old nag.” I broke down, stared at myself in the mirror, and realized how much of me was gone. That’s when I knew everything had to change. 😳👇
