When they discovered Hidey on the streets, it was clear she was in bad shape. Cats are often thought of as self-sufficient, but certain breeds require regular grooming. Hidey had been neglected for many years because her owner couldn’t take care of her fur. Rescuers first thought she looked like an alien due to her tangled coat.
Paul Russell, who found her said “My gosh this is a cat.” Hidey is a fourteen-year-old feline who was rescued by a couple that loves animals and brought to the Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center.
Her neglect happened because of her owner’s Alzheimer’s disease which left Hidey unable to groom herself properly. She became a symbol for caring about older people and their pets.
Dan Rossi the CEO pointed out how important it is for elderly people to have help with their pets. Hidey’s fur was so badly matted that it looked like dreadlocks!
After medical staff shaved off all the knots in her fur ,Hidey went on to live with a family member. This whole situation shows how crucial it is to support older pet owners!
