A family vacation aboard a cruise ship took a tragic turn when Florida student Anna Kepner passed away during the trip. The Carnival Horizon returned to PortMiami as news of the incident reached passengers and the community at home. Anna, born on June 13, 2007, had been traveling with her family, and her father, Christopher Kepner, shared that they were together on the ship at the time. The family is now focusing on finding answers while holding on to their memories.
In an interview, Christopher explained that authorities spoke with the family as part of routine procedures and that they were briefly asked to leave the ship for follow-up questions. He said he has not yet received detailed updates and is waiting to learn more. The FBI became involved because the ship was sailing between Cozumel and Miami, and Anna was officially pronounced late that morning. Officials have not released additional information.
As news began to circulate, Anna’s mother, Shauntel, posted a heartfelt message online, describing how difficult the moment was for the family. Loved ones shared that Anna was a positive, hardworking student who supported her friends and enjoyed being involved in school activities. She had recently taken steps toward a future career in public service and was known for her enthusiasm and dedication.
Anna is remembered for her warm personality and her willingness to help others. She volunteered locally, enjoyed cheerleading and gymnastics, and spent much of her free time outdoors. She also held a boater’s license, earned a scuba certification, and loved going on adventures with her family. Known affectionately as “Anna Banana,” she is cherished for her kindness, energy, and the many ways she brightened the lives of those around her.
