Fans mind blown after discovering Miley Cyrus’ name wasn’t originally ‘Miley’

She’s the name on everybody’s lips right now.

Following her colossal double-whammy win at this year’s Grammy Awards – marking her first ever accolades at this prestigious ceremony – to her alleged ‘snub’ towards her father, singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus is currently the talk of the town.

Her glistening golden gown – constructed entirely out of safety pins – and shoes set tongues wagging online, especially after she admitted during her subsequent acceptance speech that she’d ‘forgotten’ her underwear – which she later clarified were ‘custom Gucci panties’.

And they say ‘good news comes in threes’, and for Miley, this certainly seems to be the case after she was selected to be one of the ’40 legendary woman’ for British Vogue’s special edition March issue, where she can be seen glowing on the front cover.

And being one of the most hotly-discussed celebs of today, many fans have understandably been delving into her inspirational story from Disney child star to overall superstar – and a few were surprised to learn that the name synonymous with the singer wasn’t her original name.

That’s right – Miley was actually born to parents Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus with a completely different name – Destiny Hope Cyrus.

And it turns out the future star was given this particular inspirational title after being born with supraventricular tachycardia, which causes an abnormal resting heart rate.

Her name expressed her mother and father’s belief that, after overcoming her condition as a tot, their little girl would go on to achieve incredible things.

As a child, her parents, grandparents and siblings gave the youngster ‘Smiley’ the nickname because of how happy she constantly seemed to be.

And when she reached 16-years-old, Destiny Hope Cyrus would go on to legally change her name to Miley Ray Cyrus – something which she was happy to do as she hated her birth name.

If you’re surprised by the news, then it looks like you’re not the only one after thousands of fans have expressed their shock on social media this week

“Am I late or did y’all know Miley Cyrus isn’t her real name??? Well it’s been legally changed so it is now but up til she was about 15 it wasn’t,” one penned on Twitter.

“Today years old when i learned that miley cyrus’s real name is destiny,” another went on.

A third added: “I can never get over the fact that Miley Cyrus real name is Destiny”.

Another said: “Why didn’t I know that Miley Cyrus real name is Destiny”
