Did you see it? šŸ‘€ Canadian singer changes National Anthem lyrics to protest Trump

Tensions running high

The final between the U.S. and Canada at the 4 Nations tournament was set to be a showdown like no other. With tensions already sky-high ā€” thanks to Trumpā€™s tariff threats and comments about making Canada the 51st state ā€” emotions were on full display. Last week, in Montreal, Canadian fans had made their voices heard, booing the American anthem in protest.

Thursdayā€™s final in Boston between Team USA and Canada had even more on the line, and the rivalry reached a boiling point when American fans fired back by booing the Canadian anthem. To add fuel to the fire, Trump even called the U.S. team before the match to give them an extra boost of motivation. With tensions running high, this game was shaping up to be more than just a hockey match.

But what really grabbed everyoneā€™s attention wasnā€™t the boosā€”it was what happened duringĀ O Canada. Many viewers thought Canadian anthem singer Chantal Kreviazuk had made a mistake, but what followed was a bold, deliberate act of protest that left everyone talking.

Kreviazukā€™s powerful performance

The original lyrics say, ā€œin all of us command,ā€ but Kreviazuk instead sang, ā€œthat only us command.ā€ Shortly after, her publicist, Adam Gonshor, confirmed that she had changed the lyrics in protest of Trumpā€™s remarks about Canada becoming the 51st state.

Fans in Boston let out a faint boo as the anthem began, but their jeers were quickly drowned out by Kreviazukā€™s powerful performance.

According toĀ CTVĀ News, citingĀ The Associated Press, Kreviazuk explained her decision:Ā ā€œBecause I believe in democracy, and a sovereign nation should not have to be defending itself against tyranny and fascism.ā€

ā€œI grew up on music that spoke to the heart and the moment, and it shaped me as a songwriter and as a human being,ā€ she added. ā€œIt wouldnā€™t be authentic for me to have a world stage and not express myself or stay true to who I am.ā€

Kreviazuk, who is from Winnipeg, Manitoba, also wrote the phrase ā€œthat only us commandā€ with mascara on her left hand. She posted a picture of that on her Instagram with emojis of a Canadian flag and a flexed muscle.

ā€œI just put it on there so if I ever had a moment and I kind of froze, I would be able to look at my hand and see it,ā€ Kreviazuk said.

ā€œIā€™dĀ loveĀ to see people sort of get inspired and catch the fire and say their heart more in their art. ā€¦ Sometimes you just got to speak the truth in your art and itā€™s awesome. Thatā€™s what it should be about.ā€

After Canadaā€™sĀ thrillingĀ overtime victory, sealed by superstar Connor McDavid,Ā O CanadaĀ echoed through the arena once moreā€”but this time, there was no booing. Instead, Canadian players and fans united in song, proudly watching their flag rise inside TD Garden.

Chantal Kreviazukā€™s hidden message during the anthem has certainly sparked conversation, with some praising her bold stand and others questioning whether it was appropriate for such a public moment. What do you thinkā€”was this the right way to protest, or should it have been left unsaid? The debate is far from over.

THE GUY WHO BULLIED ME THROUGH HIGHSCHOOL NEEDED MY HELP IN THE ER Iā€™ve been a nurse for six years now. Long shifts, aching feet, barely enough time to eatā€”but I love it. Itā€™s the one place where I feel like I truly matter. Nobody cares what I look like, just that I do my job well. But today? Today threw me back to a time Iā€™d rather forget. I walked into the ER room with my chart, barely glancing at the name. ā€œAlright, letā€™s see what we gotā€”ā€ Then I looked up. Robby Langston. He was sitting on the bed, wincing as he held his wrist, but when he saw me, his eyes went wide. For a second, I thought maybe he didnā€™t recognize me. But then he did a quick, awkward glance at my faceā€”at my noseā€”and I knew. Middle school, high schoolā€¦ he made my life hell. “Big Becca,” “Toucan Sam,” all the creative ways to make a girl hate her own reflection. I spent years wishing I could shrink, disappear, be anyone else. But here I was, standing in scrubs, holding his chart, and he was the one needing me. ā€œBecca?ā€ His voice was hesitant, almost nervous. ā€œWow, uh… itā€™s been a while.ā€ I kept my face neutral. ā€œWhat happened to your wrist?ā€ ā€œBasketball injury,ā€ he said. ā€œJust a sprain, I think.ā€ I nodded, checking his vitals, doing my job like I would with anyone else. But inside, I was battling old ghosts. I had imagined a moment like this beforeā€”facing my past, getting some kind of closure. Maybe even some kind of justice. MY DAD TOOK ME TO PROM IN A WHEELCHAIR ā€” THE NEXT DAY, HE FOUND A $10,000 CHECK IN OUR MAILBOX. After my parents split and my mom passed away, I had no choice but to move in with my dadā€”the same man she always called a “hopeless loser.” Living with him was… different. I’d catch him slipping out late at night, but I had no clue why. Meanwhile, prom was coming up, but I couldn’t have cared less. No date, stuck in a wheelchair, and feeling trapped in every way imaginableā€”it wasn’t exactly a night I was looking forward to. Surgery could change my life, but without the money for it, that was just a dream. I had accepted that prom just wasn’t happening for me. But then, out of nowhere, my dadā€”the guy my mom always doubtedā€”said he was taking me himself. I had no idea what to expect, but that night changed everything. Not only did I go, but people loved him. And somehow, he even got me out on the dance floor. But here’s where things get crazy. The very next day, my dad comes home holding an envelope he found in our mailboxā€”a $10,000 check inside, along with a simple note: “Dad of the Year.” Then he turns to me and whispers, “I think I know who sent this.” šŸ˜³šŸ‘‡
