Beloved Christian Leader and Presidential Advisor To 5 Presidents, Passed Away At 89

Dr. James Dobson, founder of the Christian ministry Focus on the Family and an advisor to five U.S. presidents, has d**d at 89.

Dobson, a psychologist and one of the most influential Christian leaders of the last 50 years, passed away Thursday morning, according to the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute (JDFI).

“Dr. Dobson was a pioneer — a man of deep conviction whose voice shaped the way generations view faith, family, and culture,” said Gary Bauer with JDFI per Fox News.

“His bold leadership, integrity, and compassion helped equip countless families to thrive in a world of shifting values. He was a mentor, a counselor, and a steady voice of truth in turbulent times.”

Dr. James Dobson was a Christian psychologist, author, and broadcaster best known as the founder of Focus on the Family, one of the most influential Christian ministries in the United States.

Born on April 21, 1936, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Dobson grew up in a family of ministers and dedicated his life to faith and family values. He earned his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Southern California and spent many years teaching at USC’s School of Medicine, where he specialized in child development.

In 1977, Dobson launched Focus on the Family, a radio program and ministry that quickly grew into a global organization. Through books, broadcasts, and conferences, he promoted traditional family life, parenting guidance, and Christian values. His work reached millions of households and shaped the conversation around faith, family, and culture for decades.

Dobson also founded the Family Research Council in 1981, which became a key voice in American politics on social and moral issues. Known for his strong views on marriage, parenting, and morality, he was both a highly respected leader among evangelicals and a controversial figure in broader culture.

Dobson served as an advisor to five U.S. presidents, providing guidance on issues of family, faith, and social policy. He was recognized as one of the most influential Christian leaders of the last half-century.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, whom he married in 1960, their two children, and several grandchildren.
