A Man Once Called Brazil’s Most Tattooed Shares His Remarkable Transformation

For years, Leandro de Souza was instantly recognizable — the man whose body was almost completely covered in tattoos, earning him the title of “the most tattooed man in Brazil.” His striking look drew attention at expos and online, where his skin was described as a living canvas. But today, he is in the spotlight for a very different reason: Leandro has begun removing the tattoos that once defined him. Recent photos of his transformed appearance have surprised followers, sparking thousands of comments about his remarkable journey.

Leandro’s story is one of change, challenges, and ultimately, renewal. Born in Bagé, near the border with Uruguay, he got his first tattoo at 13, inspired by his love for rock bands like Nirvana and Guns N’ Roses. By adulthood, 95% of his body was inked, and he gained national recognition at the Santa Rosa International Tattoo Expo. Yet behind the fame, Leandro faced personal struggles and difficult times. It was during this chapter that he embraced faith, crediting it with giving him a new sense of direction and the strength to pursue transformation.

The decision to remove his tattoos became both a physical and emotional process. Through laser sessions lasting nearly 40 minutes each, Leandro began the long journey of reclaiming his natural appearance. He has documented the progress on Instagram, where more than half a million followers cheer him on. Support has come not only in words but also through contributions that helped fund his treatments. “Dignity has been restored,” Leandro shared, underscoring that this transformation is about much more than looks.

Today, Leandro speaks openly about his past choices — especially the decision to tattoo his face — and encourages others to think carefully before making permanent decisions. Despite the challenges, he says the process has brought him hope. His goal now is to provide for his 10-year-old son and support his mother, who lives in a care facility. On social media, reactions to his before-and-after photos range from admiration for his courage to surprise at the man beneath the ink. His story, once centered on extremes, has now become one of resilience, faith, and the power of second chances.
