We’ve been taught since we were children not to judge a book by its cover. It doesn’t matter if the cover is plain or even in tatters as long as the words inside are meaningful and powerful.

People are like books too. Every one of them has their own story to tell, but you can only appreciate what’s inside if you don’t judge them by their appearances. Sometimes the most beautiful people can be empty inside, while the most talented individuals are not the shiniest on the outside.

Perhaps one of the most powerful examples of this in our time might be Susan Boyle. She is one of the most loved singers today, but she wasn’t always this way. When she came to audition for Britain’s Got Talent, she was ridiculed and made fun of. She got onstage with no makeup, and with an outfit that most would have called frumpy. Simon was so snarky when she got onstage, but she wasn’t about to let anything dull her light.

This video shows the iconic audition tape from 2009 when Susan first shocked the world. The judges were stunned when she revealed that she was 47 years old. Nobody believed in her and her abilities. She performed “I Dreamed A Dream” and as soon as she hit that first note, all the jaws in the room dropped to the floor! Her voice was totally flawless, and Simon couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows in disbelief.

As they say, the rest is history. Susan went on to be a finalist in that season of the show. Although she didn’t win the title, she turned out to be a successful singer who is still wowing people with her music today!
