Jonathan Banks enigmatic better half has made a significant and positive addition to the veteran actor’s life

With a career spanning over five decades, the brilliant Jonathan Banks has consistently delivered stellar performances on the screen.

With his seemingly cold, dull eyes, he has the most natural bored-to-death look I’ve ever seen. Somehow it just works.

The 77-year-old actor is, of course, best known for his portrayal of Mike Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad, and its spin-off Better Call Saul – but there is much more about this seasoned actor that not everyone may be aware of…

Gruff. Intense. Versatile.

From wise guys to cartel enforcers, Jonathan Banks is a maestro at orchestrating unforgettable performances. The clearest example of this is Banks’ brilliant portrayal of the hitman and fixer ”Mike Ehrmantraut” – undoubtedly one of my favorite characters in Breaking Bad.

Hailing from Chillum Heights, Maryland, the actor garnered six Emmy nominations for bringing life to supporting characters across three TV shows: WiseguyBreaking Bad, and Better Call Saul. According to himself, he began dreaming of becoming an actor at the age of 5.

During the mid-1960s, Banks dropped out of Indiana University after his girlfriend became pregnant, initiating his journey into the world of acting.

Banks has been a fixture in Tinseltown since the early 1970s.

However, it took some time before the mainstream audience truly took notice of his talents. His rise to stardom started in the late 1980s, when Banks portrayed FBI Special Agent Frank McPike in Wiseguy, a CBS crime drama.

”It spoke to the darkness in all of us,” he once commented on his breakthrough role.

Following Wiseguy, he played bad guys in well-received series like TJ Hooker and Simon & Simon. He also acted in one episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and in Little House on the Prairie.

Then, in 2009, he landed the role that would come to define his entire acting career. When Banks’ got the chance to play Mike Ehrmantraut, a former Philadelphia cop turned enforcer for the Albuquerque cartel in AMC’s Breaking Bad, his whole life changed.

”The hardman with a heart” made an everlasting impression on the series, and the actor infused many of his real-life experiences into the character.

”Well, I love that character. That broken, broken character,” Banks told Washington Post in 2022.

Breaking Bad is still considered one of best TV shows ever made and with Mike’s badass attitude and heartfelt devotion to his granddaughter, he quickly became a fan favorite. The actor also has his own explanation for why his portrayal of the cantankerous former cop resonated with viewers.

”I’m not very pretty, so I can’t play the leading man. So I’m either going to be the bad guy or the cop. And that’s – you know what? It’s a smart aleck answer, but it’s also there’s some truth in that. In the world of Hollywood and television, if you’re not beautiful, you better be able to act a little bit, anyway,” he told NPR.

Considering that Banks grew up with a mother who worked for CIA, it might not be that surprising that he often starred as a police officer or a bad guy. On the personal front, however, things have been significantly calmer.

Jonathan Banks wife

The veteran actor is a father of four and has been married twice – nothing dramatic compared to the usual Hollywood narrative. Banks tied the knot with his first wife, Marnie Fausch, at the age of 21. Even though their marriage lasted no more than two years, the couple welcomed a daughter during that time.

After that split, Banks enjoyed bachelor status for two decades – until he finally met ”the one”.

In 1988, Banks crossed paths with his second wife, Gennera Gonzalez Cebian, while in Spain. The couple exchanged vows in1990, and their union was later blessed with the arrival of fraternal twins. Additionally, Banks has a stepdaughter from this marriage.

Following in her father’s footsteps, his daughter Rebecca Elena Banks has pursued a similar path in the film and TV industry. She currently works as a film director and writer.

As he turns 77, Banks finds profound joy and fulfillment in life, and in interviews he describes himself as ”wildly lucky.”

”I’m stupid in love with my wife and always have been,” he told The Guardian.

Gennera has undeniably made a significant and positive addition to Banks’ life.

”My wife is from Spain, so when she first came here 30 years ago she had no idea what Thanksgiving was, but now she makes the best turkey stuffing. Then on Christmas Eve we have a Spanish Christmas and the table groans. It’s just magnificent. All the kids come home, boyfriends, husbands, whatever. They all come home and there are a lot of people in my house over Christmas, it’s great,” he recalled in a interview with Dad.info.com.

From his early days in the industry to his iconic roles in Breaking Bad and beyond, Banks has carved a legacy of versatility and depth.

As we continue to witness his captivating performances, we raise a toast to an enduring talent who, with each scowl and silent moment, reminds us why he stands as a maestro in the world of acting!

I ASKED MY NEIGHBOR TO CLEAN UP AFTER USING MY BBQ — THE NEXT DAY, SHE LEFT HER OWN “RULES” ON MY DOOR, BUT I SHUT THAT DOWN. So, about six months ago, a new neighbor moved in — a woman (40) with her son (16). At first, she seemed chill. I even lent her some household stuff and let her use my outdoor grill station when we weren’t home. No big deal, right? Wrong. One weekend, me, my husband and our kids went to visit my parents. We came back, and boom — MY BACKYARD LOOKED LIKE A FRAT HOUSE HAD JUST HOSTED A BBQ APOCALYPSE. Empty bottles, food scraps, grill left dirty like it had survived a grease explosion. I ask her about it, and she just shrugs, saying it was her son’s birthday, so you know, it’s just kids, it’s what kids do. Apparently, I shouldn’t make a fuss over something so minor. Lady, it’s my backyard, not a public park! So, I do the reasonable thing. I draft up three simple rules: 1. If you use something, clean it and put it back. 2. Please, clean up after your child. 3. That’s it. Just be respectful. I hand it to her, thinking we’re all good. THE NEXT DAY, I WAKE UP TO A LIST OF HER RULES TAPED TO MY DOOR. HER rules. For MY property. Spoiler: I didn’t follow her rules. In two weeks, her son knocked on my door and pleaded, “Ma’am, please, stop!” 👇🏼 Full story in the first comment 👇

MY SISTER TOOK BACK THE CAR SHE GIFTED ME AFTER I UPGRADED IT, SO I TAUGHT HER A LESSON. My older sister sold me her old car for a symbolic amount. It hadn’t run in ages, with flat tires and rust under the hood. But she made a big deal out of gifting it to me. Knowing my way around cars, I invested $5,000 to upgrade everything—new interior, fresh paint, new tires, and wheels. I was thrilled with the result. One morning, as I was about to leave for university, my sister stormed in, DEMANDING THE CAR BACK. I was sh0cked. She claimed her husband’s car had broken down, and since she hadn’t sent the sale documents, the car was still legally hers. She said she had changed her mind. My parents sided with her, arguing that she needed the car for her kids. My first thought was to call the police, but then I had a better idea. I decided to teach her a lesson she wouldn’t forget. A POOR BOY’S LIFE CHANGES AFTER HE PULLS AN OLD, RUSTY CHAIN STICKING OUT OF THE SAND ON A REMOTE BEACH Adam is 13 years old and lives with his grandfather in an old trailer near the ocean. His parents passed away when he was just 3, and since then, his grandpa has been his only family. They don’t have much, but his grandpa has raised him well—Adam is strong, smart, and way more mature than most kids his age. One afternoon, he rode his bike down to the beach, just like any other day. He wandered along the shore, letting the waves tickle his feet—until something caught his eye. A thick, rusted chain lay partially buried in the sand. Curious, Adam grabbed it and pulled—but it barely budged. Whatever it was connected to was massive. From that moment on, Adam became obsessed with digging. He had no idea what he was about to uncover—or how it was about to change his life forever ⬇️

The rusted chain jutting from the sand seemed worthless to everyone else, but to 13-year-old Adam, it promised an escape from poverty. He couldn’t have known that…

THEY WERE PRAYING IN A CIRCLE—BUT NO ONE TAUGHT THEM HOW It was just after snack time, and I was washing out some paint cups when I noticed the room had gone oddly quiet. Too quiet for a group of 4- and 5-year-olds who usually treated volume like a sport. I turned the corner into the play area and stopped in my tracks. Four of them—Niko, Janelle, Izzy, and Samir—were sitting cross-legged in a perfect little circle. Hands held. Eyes shut. Heads bowed. They were whispering something I couldn’t quite catch at first. I thought maybe it was a song or one of those rhyming games they loved. But when I leaned in, I realized they were… praying. Like, really praying. Asking for things. Saying “Amen.” Janelle even crossed herself at the end like she’d seen in church. Thing is, we don’t do any kind of religious activity in our classroom. It’s a public kindergarten. No nativity plays, no Bible stories, nothing. And I’d never seen any of these four talk about faith or even mimic that kind of behavior before. I crouched down and gently asked, “Hey, what are you guys doing?” Izzy opened one eye and whispered, “We’re asking the sky to help us.” “Help you with what?” I asked. Niko just said, ⬇️
