Richard Thomas, John-Boy From ‘The Waltons,’ Raised Seven Beautiful Children Including A Set Of Triplets

Most know Richard Thomas as John-Boy from the 1970s historical drama, The Waltons.

The series followed a large family living in Virginia during the Great Depression and World War II.

Richard Thomas, 72, played the oldest of seven children, and while Thomas didn’t grow up on a farm in Virginia his life after The Waltons imitated art when he became the father to seven beautiful children of his own.

Richard Thomas, born on June 13, 1951, in Manhattan, New York, is best known for his portrayal of John-Boy Walton in the popular television series The Waltons. This role brought him widespread recognition and critical acclaim.
Richard was always amazing and wonderful on iconic TV series and I couldn’t imagine anyone else in that role. He was so passionate, intense and enthusiastic as John Boy.

Following his most notable role as John-Boy Walton, Thomas went on to star in several made for TV movies including The Red Badge of Courage and All Quiet on the Western Front.

While making a name for himself after starring on The Waltons, he married Alma Gonzales. The two met while he was filming the hit TV show, and they got married in 1975. The following year they had their first child together, a son Richard Francisco.

Several years later the couple were expecting again, and this time they were expecting twins or so they thought.

But three weeks before her due date, while Thomas was finishing a seven-month run in the play Fifth of July, he received a call from his wife. Her doctor had found a third heartbeat.

“There are three of them. They’re coming out tomorrow, so get here.”

He told his stage manager and then flew home to be with his wife as she gave birth to their children.

Barbara, Gwyneth, and Pilar were born the following day.

Suddenly their family of three jumped to a family of six.

“We’re a less mobile family now,” Thomas told People after the birth of his three daughters. He also added that any future jobs “will have to know they’re hiring a family unit. I don’t travel with a hairdresser or private secretary, but my family comes with me, and that’s important.”

Unfortunately, in 1993, he and Gonzales divorced.

Meanwhile he met Georgiana Bischoff, an art dealer from Santa Fe, and the two married in 1994.

Bischoff had two children from two previous marriages, and then the couple welcomed a son Montana in 1996.

1 : OUR HOUSE WAS COVERED IN RAW EGGS ON CHRISTMAS—THEN WE FOUND A NOTE STUFFED UNDER THE DOOR Christmas was always about family. That’s why we cherished our yearly tradition of escaping to the islands—just the four of us—and soaking in the sun before the holiday chaos. This year was no different. Or so I thought. Upon returning home, I froze. The house looked like a war zone. Raw eggs dripped from the walls, broken shells littered the porch, and even the holiday wreath was destroyed. The kids were stunned, my husband muttered under his breath, and my chest tightened with disbelief. Who would do this? I prided myself on being a good neighbor—baking cookies for new families, helping at block parties. This didn’t feel random; it felt personal. Then we found the note shoved under the door: “THIS IS FOR WHAT YOU TOOK FROM ME BEFORE CHRISTMAS!” The words were a slap. What had I taken? From whom? That night, I checked the cameras. The footage showed a hooded figure methodically hurling eggs. My stomach turned. This wasn’t a prank; it was a vendetta. I was already dialing the police when I paused the footage and zoomed in. Something about the way the figure moved—the tilt of their head, the familiar posture—made my breath catch. I realized who it was. “IT COULDN’T BE!” I screamed.⬇️
