During Her 5th Pregnancy, Emily Mitchell Became Unresponsive While Having Morning Coffee — She and Her Baby Tragically Passed Away

Emily Mitchell, a 36-year-old homeschooling mom of four, was in her second trimester with her fifth child.

Healthy and active, she spent her days preparing educational projects for her family and online community.

On December 22, 2020, what began as a normal morning ended in tragedy. Emily suddenly became unresponsive at breakfast.

Despite immediate efforts and emergency responders arriving, Emily and her unborn baby could not be saved. The medical examiner

later confirmed the cause: a pulmonary embolism, a serious condition caused by a blood clot that can strike without warning, especially during pregnancy.

Her family shared the news publicly, expressing gratitude for the support they received and raising awareness about the hidden risks of pulmonary embolisms.

Before her passing, Emily had built a vibrant homeschooling community through The Hidden Way Learning,

helping families create meaningful, nature-based education. After her death, her husband Joseph took on the responsibility of raising their

four children—Finn, Isla, Edie, and Lulu—while honoring Emily’s legacy. Close friends helped continue the homeschooling traditions she cherished.

Though her life ended suddenly, Emily’s spirit and work continue to inspire thousands of families.

Her story is a tribute to her dedication, her children, and a reminder of the silent health risks that can affect anyone.
