Burt Reynolds’ Longtime Costar, Passed Away At 82

Alfie Wise, the American actor best known for playing “Batman” the tow-truck driver in the 1981 comedy The Cannonball Run, has died at 82.

He passed from natural causes on July 22 at the Thomas H. Corey VA Medical Center in Palm Beach, Florida, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Born November 17, 1941, Wise became a familiar face in 1970s and 1980s films and television, often portraying quirky and

humorous supporting characters. Despite his small stature, his comedic timing and screen presence made him memorable.

A longtime friend and frequent costar of Burt Reynolds, Wise appeared alongside him in multiple projects, with The Cannonball Run remaining

his most iconic role. His portrayal of “Batman” brought extra humor and warmth to the hit road-race comedy, cementing his place in fans’ memories.

After retiring from acting in 2000, Wise transitioned into a career in real estate. His decades-long contribution

to comedy films and his collaborations with Reynolds left a lasting mark on Hollywood.

Wise’s passing closes the chapter on a career filled with lighthearted performances that delighted audiences,
