19-Year-Old Camp Mystic Counselor Katherine Ferruzzo Found Passed Days After Texas Floods

A flash flood on July 4 devastated Camp Mystic in Texas Hill Country, claiming at least 107 lives statewide.

Among the victims was 19-year-old counselor Katherine Ferruzzo, remembered for her passion for helping

children with special needs. She had recently graduated and was set to attend the University of Texas.

The Guadalupe River rose 26 feet in 45 minutes, destroying cabins and cutting off communication.

Many young campers were left stranded without training, food, or guidance.

Camp co-owner Richard Eastland, 70, also died trying to rescue campers. Ferruzzo and Eastland were among at least

87 victims in Kerr County, the hardest-hit area. In response, the Ferruzzo family has created a foundation in Katherine’s honor.

Critics have called for better flood alert systems, while leaders pledged improvements. The search continues for several missing from the camp as the community mourns this historic tragedy.
