Despite earlier slamming electric cars and saying they are only “good if you have a towing company,” Donald Trump turned the White House into a Tesla Showroom in a show of support for Elon Musk’s EV giant.
On March 11, a range of Tesla models were put on display as Trump publicly praised Musk and vowed to support the billionaire’s business.
“I’m going to buy a brand-new Tesla,” at “full price,” Trump told reporters, adding that “everything’s computer.”
The president then accused the “radical left” of boycotting Tesla to hurt Musk, whose company has recently faced a steep decline in stock prices.
In a post shared on Truth Social the same day, Trump writes the “Radical Left Lunatics, as they often do, are trying to illegally and collusively boycott Tesla, one of the World’s great automakers, and Elon’s ‘baby,’ in order to attack and do harm to Elon, and everything he stands for.”
But while the president’s enthusiastic praise for Tesla was making headlines, it was the piece of paper in his hand that truly stole the show.
The paper
Internet users were left stunned and amused after noticing a peculiar handwritten note that Trump was clutching while checking out a fleet of Teslas on the lawn of the White House.
One photographer zoomed in on the paper and snapped an image of the document that detailed the different costs of the electric vehicles.
It read:
- Tesla Pricing:
- Full Self Driving:
- Model X – $112,490 (silver)
- CT – $114,000 (Gray)
- Model S – $108,990 (Blue)
- Model Y – $59,990 (Red)”
Below some additional prices hidden by Trump’s thumb was a sales pitch, reading: “Teslas can be purchased as low as $299/month of $35k. All cars have self-driving, just needs to be turned on (fee).”
