MY 10-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER INSISTED ON CHECKING OUR MAILBOX BY HERSELF – TODAY I CHECKED IT AND WHAT I SAW LEFT ME IN TEARS. One night after dinner, Lily, my 10-year-old, asked if she could check the mailbox. It was odd because she never cared about the mail before, but I handed her the key anyway. The next day she asked again, and then it became a daily thing. She also started acting secretive and asking weird questions. One night, when I was tucking her in, she asked, “Mom, can people talk through letters even if they don’t know each other well?” The next morning, I saw her slipping something into her backpack. When I asked, she just smiled and said it was for a school project. I couldn’t take it anymore. She was SO protective of the mailbox, calling it “a secret,” which really freaked me out. I pretended to let it go and told her to head to school. After she left, I opened the mailbox and TEARS STARTED STREAMING DOWN MY FACE as I saw a pack of letters from ⬇️

One day, she took an unusual interest in checking the mailbox, making it a daily ritual.

Her mother noticed Lily becoming more introspective and protective of the mail, sparking

curiosity and concern. One morning, after Lily left for school, her mother checked the mailbox

and found a stack of letters addressed to their mail carrier, Mrs. Thompson. Reading them,

she discovered that Lily had been writing to comfort Mrs. Thompson,

who had recently lost her daughter. Lily shared stories about school, her love for butterflies,

and memories of baking cookies with her mother. Mrs. Thompson had replied,

expressing how much Lily’s words meant to her.Overwhelmed with pride,

Lily’s mother encouraged their friendship. Eventually, they invited Mrs.

Thompson over for tea, sharing laughter, stories, and homemade cookies.

Seeing their bond, Lily’s mother realized how a small act of kindness could bring healing

and connection. As Lily asked if their friendship would last forever, her mother assured

her that the kindness they shared would always endure.

AM I WRONG FOR BEING UPSET THAT MY 70-YEAR-OLD MOM BOUGHT A $1,800 DESIGNER DRESS INSTEAD OF HELPING WITH HER GRANDSON’S EDUCATION? I just don’t understand my mom’s priorities. She turned 70 recently and decided to treat herself to a designer dress worth $1,800—just to wear to her book club and the occasional get-together with friends. Meanwhile, my son is about to start college, and every bit of financial help would make a difference. I’m struggling with this. She’s always been practical, putting family first, so this feels completely out of character. That money could’ve actually meant something to her grandson’s future. Am I being unreasonable for feeling this way? Shouldn’t she care more about family than an expensive dress she probably won’t wear more than a few times? Has anyone else dealt with something like this? ————————————————- Hello! Grandma here.
