In recent remarks that have ignited fierce debate, Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), known for her affiliation with the progressive “Squad,” found herself at the
center of controversy after expressing support for foreign nations over the United States. During an interview on a popular New York City radio show, Crockett openly
declared that she was “rooting” for Canada and Mexico—nations she praised for their candidness and forthrightness in standing up to what she characterized as a “crazy
regime” in the United States. These comments have drawn significant criticism from conservatives and American patriots alike, who view them as a dismissal of national
loyalty.
Crockett’s remarks came during a discussion on The Breakfast Club, a show well known for its hard-hitting political dialogue. “The fact that I’m rooting for Canada and I’m
rooting for Mexico a lot is really wild,” she stated. Her unexpected endorsement of these neighboring countries was paired with pointed criticism of the current state of
American politics. According to Crockett, both Canada and Mexico have been “speaking truth to power” in contrast to what she perceives as an increasingly dysfunctional
U.S. administration. This perspective, particularly the idea that foreign nations are somehow models of resistance against domestic issues, has led to accusations of anti-
American sentiment.
