93-year-old gives marriage a go and pops question to woman he met at sister’s wedding in 1959

Love truly knows neither bounds nor timelines.

Joe Potenzano and Mary Elkind are living proof of that.
This October, they’re set to tie the knot, rekindling a romance that began 64 years ago.

The two first crossed paths in 1959 at Joe’s sister’s wedding.
Mary was the radiant maid of honor, and Joe, the dashing best man.

“I fell head over heels for her, and she felt the same about me,” Joe, now 93, shared with a gleam in his eye.

However, life had other plans.
After a brief romance, they ventured onto different paths.

Mary chased her dreams in the world of professional dance, while Joe delved deep into engineering studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Mary eventually settled down with another man, raising a family in Rockland County, New York.

Joe, on the other hand, chose the life of a bachelor.

Yet, destiny has a way of bringing souls back together.
Over the years, their families kept them connected.

Then, one day, feeling the weight of loneliness that often accompanies old age, Joe mustered the courage to ask Mary, now a widow for nine years, out on a date.

Mary chuckled as she remembered their conversation, “He asked me out, and then realized he didn’t even have my number!”

Their dates were filled with dinners, movies, and long phone calls.

One day, in the comfort of Joe’s home, he popped the question.

While Joe knew there was no way around it, he wanted to marry Mary, he was still just a little bit hesitant.

The problem? He wasn’t sure he was in the running for marriage material.

“At my age, I wasn’t sure if I was gonna get shot down,” he said.

The two lovebirds are now eagerly awaiting their wedding day.

After the celebrations, they plan to escape to Cape Cod for a romantic honeymoon.

Mary reflected on their journey, “I’ve always had a soft spot for Joe. Sometimes, I’d wonder how life would’ve turned out if we’d been together. Now, I guess we’ll find out.”

I NEARLY FROZE TO D.E.A.T.H AT AGE EIGHT UNTIL A HOMELESS MAN SAVED ME — TODAY, I ACCIDENTALLY MET HIM AGAIN. I was eight years old when it happened. I got lost in the woods during a terrible snowstorm — snow, wind, pitch-black night. I was completely alone. I remember screaming for help, my voice barely carrying through the storm. And then — he showed up. This homeless man followed my cries, found me shivering and terrified, and walked me to the nearest roadside café. I remember how he spent his last few dollars to get me a hot tea and a sandwich to warm me up. Then he called the cops and left, quietly slipping out the door, leaving me safe with the café manager. That was 30 years ago. Fast forward to now — I was taking the subway when I saw him again. 30 years later. I recognized him immediately — not his face, but the tattoo on his arm. He was still homeless, sitting there, asking strangers for change. My heart broke. I walked up to him, barely holding back tears, and asked, “Is it really you? Mark?!”⬇️ (Story continues in first comment)

MY MIL CHANGED THE LOCKS, STUFFED OUR BELONGINGS IN TRASH BAGS, AND KICKED ME AND MY KIDS OUT AFTER MY HUSBAND DIED – THAT WAS HER BIGGEST MISTAKE When I married Ryan, I knew his mother, Margaret, despised me. She never hid it. To her, I was a gold-digger, unworthy of her son. Worst of all? She refused to acknowledge my kids — my 5-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son — as her grandchildren. Ryan, though, loved us fiercely. He bought us a beautiful home, ensured my kids felt safe and cherished, and promised me that his mother would never interfere in our lives. And for a while, she didn’t. Then tragedy struck. Ryan died in a car accident, leaving me shattered. My kids lost the only real father they had ever known. And just two days after his funeral, I came home from running errands to find our belongings dumped on the curb — STUFFED IN TRASH BAGS LIKE GARBAGE! Panic surged through me. I ran to the front door. Locked. I banged. Nothing. Then it swung open. Margaret. Smug as ever. “OH, YOU’RE BACK. THOUGHT YOU’D TAKE THE HINT. THIS HOUSE IS MINE NOW. YOU AND YOUR LITTLE BRATS NEED TO GO!” My blood ran cold. “Margaret, this is my home.” She scoffed. “It was my son’s. Now that he’s gone? You have no right to it.” I clenched my fists, my kids trembling beside me. That night, we slept in my car. But I wasn’t going to let her win. The next morning, I made my move.⬇️
