She sent out invitations a week in advance, which she had DRAWN AND HANDWRITTEN HERSELF, DESPITE HER SHAKING HANDS. – On the day of her birthday, I arrived at the party 10 minutes late, gift in hand. AS I WALKED IN, I FOUND MY ANGEL OF A GRANDMOTHER REMOVING PLATES FROM THE TABLE AND POURING COFFEE DOWN THE SINK. At first, I thought I was late and had missed everything, but WITH A LUMP IN HER THROAT, GRANNY ADMITTED THAT NO ONE HAD SHOWN UP TO HER BIRTHDAY. Her eyes were watering, and she could barely maintain a shaky smile. MY BLOOD BOILED. EVERYONE HAD PROMISED TO BE THERE, AND NOT A SINGLE ONE HAD THE DECENCY TO COME.
